Abstract :
Childhood obesity at high risk of causing health problems that occur in children either currently or in their future time. Childhood obesity can reduce the activity and creativity of children and also increases the incidence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) type 2, impaired glucose metabolism, heart disease and clogged arteries. If childhood obesity has not been detected and prevented at an early stage it then may increase the prevalence of chronic disease. The purpose of this study was to identify the prevalence of obesity in sixth grade elementary school students in Denpasar, Bali. Prevalence of obesity among elementary schools students have been identified in this cross-sectional descriptive study. Three hundred and eighty two-sixth grade students from eight elementary schools participated in the study conducted between April to August 2015. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Variables of the research were analyzed using descriptive analysis. Results of the study showed that prevalence of obesity among elementary schools students in Denpasar, Bali was 18.8%. In accordance with the result of the research, health promotions are important implemented to prevent the increasing prevalence of obesity in elementary school students.
