Abstract :
Hypertension is a chronic disease characterized by increased blood pressure above 140 systolic and 90 diastolic. The elderly are most vulnerable age group have hypertension, because the elderly have experienced various physical and psychological setbacks. To reduce the incidence of hypertension, especially in the elderly, their social supports from family in implementing health promotion behavior is very important to do. The objective of this study was to determine the social support of family for elderly with hypertension. The study involved 102 elderly people with hypertension. The result of this study showed that social support of family in the elderly with hypertension with mean 5.14 and the standard deviation of .42, that mean the categorized of social support is good. This means the greater of social supports, the better of health promotions to control their blood pressure. This research is useful for nursing practitioners and families to provide support to the elderly in doing health promotion behavior optimally so that the elderly are able to manage and control their blood pressure well.
