Abstract :
Self-care behaviors are a collection of activities that individuals need to perform on their own to maintain their lives, good health, and well-being. Improving self-care behaviors of patients would be conditioned by some factors such as age, gender, and family factors. This research aims to examine the relationship between family cohesion and self-care behaviors in Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB) patients treated in a Directly Observed Treatments Short-Course (DOTS) program. By using convenience sampling technique there were 81 Pulmonary TB patients who lived in the West and the South of Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia become samples. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistic and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results showed that there was statistically significant and positive correlations between family cohesion, and self-care behaviors (r = .54, p<0.001, respectively). This finding indicated that family variables should be considered in promoting self-care behaviors among pulmonary TB patients.
